The challenge
A housing provider’s residential car parks were being used by people with no right to park there, and it had no data on how the spaces were really used. It wanted to trial automatic number plate recognition before deciding on a wider roll-out.
What we did
- Supplied solar-powered ANPR cameras for fixed positions at the trial car parks, so no mains power or trenching was needed.
- Integrated the cameras through their API with the parking management system, using whitelists of residents’ vehicles by estate.
- Analysed camera usage and performance: volumes, vehicle events, and the time and frequency of movements, against the trial’s KPIs.
- Kept privacy front and centre: no images of drivers collected, and no use of trial data for enforcement.
The result
Hard data on how the car parks are used, and a side-by-side comparison of camera options and costs to base a decision on.
