The challenge
A community scheme lends mobility scooters to people with limited mobility so they can get around a busy town centre. Bookings, member records and the fleet itself were managed by hand. Staff couldn’t see where a scooter was, how much charge it had left, or whether a rider had got into difficulty.
What we did
Smart trackers on every scooter. Compact, weatherproof 4G units draw power from the scooter’s own battery. The same unit runs on a 24-volt mobility scooter or a 36- or 48-volt e-bike, so a mixed fleet is tracked in exactly the same way.
- A live map of the whole fleet, showing where each vehicle is, whether it is out on hire and how much charge it has left.
- Tip-over alerts. If a scooter falls and stays down, staff are told straight away so they can check on the rider.
- Theft protection. A backup battery keeps the tracker reporting even if the main battery is disconnected.
- Remote set-up. Settings change over the air; nothing has to come back to the workshop.
A multi-tenant hire platform. Behind the trackers sits our connected hire platform. Each operator gets its own space with its own branding, prices, terms and customers, completely separate from every other operator.
- Online sign-up and booking through the operator’s own registration link.
- Automatic text messages for booking confirmations, reminders and notifications.
- Existing member and fleet records imported, so the scheme started with its full history.
- Hires can run free of charge, with card payments switched on when the operator is ready.
The result
The scheme now runs its bookings online and can see its whole fleet live, and riders are safer because a fall raises an alert instead of going unnoticed. The platform was built from day one for many operators: community schemes, tourist hire businesses and council e-bike programmes can all use it without building or hosting anything themselves.
