The requirement
Emergency lighting has to work the moment the power fails. BS 5266-1 expects a short functional test every month and a full-duration discharge test every year, with a written record of each. In a large estate that means somebody walking every corridor, stairwell and plant room with a test key and a clipboard, and the record is only as good as the last round.
Our approach
We connect LoRaWAN-enabled emergency fittings, or retrofit monitors to existing ones, to a LoRaWAN network. Each fitting then:
- runs its own monthly and annual tests on schedule;
- reports a failed lamp, battery or test straight away, with its location;
- adds every result to a permanent, time-stamped digital log you can hand to an auditor.
Faults become a work order instead of a surprise at the next inspection, and the manual test round disappears. Because LoRaWAN signals reach stairwells, basements and plant rooms that Wi-Fi and mobile signals struggle with, the whole building can report over one network.
We have developed and tested the device codecs that turn emergency lighting messages into readable test results, so the data arrives ready to use in your dashboard, maintenance system or our own platform.
Devices we use
- LoRaWAN-enabled emergency luminaires and downlights
- Retrofit LoRa emergency lighting monitors
- LoRa communication modules for existing fittings
